These are all the most pertinent and recurring questions we have already been navigating. As more arise, our FAQs will be updated. The OMB FAQs were approved during the Rule Making process–we will keep you posted if we hear of any changes happening on their page as well.
As stated in the OMB Rules and Regulations, those interested in becoming a 5NP Technician must attend an OMB training whose curriculum meets the criteria set by the Rules process and become certified by one of these bodies. Certified trainees then must apply to register as 5NP Technicians with the Oregon Medical Board–which is a biannual registry costing $100/2 years. The application process does include a background check costing an additional $48. Criminal history is not an automatic disqualification for 5NP registration–it simply initiates a conversation with the OMB. The Board evaluates each applicant’s background and experience and will consider additional information provided by the applicant.
For current healthcare providers, though we cannot be held legally responsible as you must do your own research, we did do some of our own research for folks already holding health licenses and or certifications and have yet to find a conflicting certification or license in Oregon. Again, please check with your own Boards and employers to make sure you are truly in a good space as you and they know far more about your profession than we do.
Yes. Each certifying body has different requirements to gain trainer status, and the OMB has a path laid out for 5NP Techs in Oregon to gain trainer status as well. Please check with the current certifying bodies POCA or NADA or with the OMB Rules and Regulations for more information. If you are an LAc* listed with the OMB and in good standing, you too can become a trainer by reaching out to their licensure team to notify them you would like to apply be a 5NP Trainer. You can also reach out to them if you have questions or are concerned your curriculum does not meet the Rules set criteria.
If you are a non-LAc hoping to become a trainer in under 2 years, you will want to be sure to attend a POCA or NADA certified training. Otherwise, the OMB approved curriculum trainings currently need a full 2 year waiting period from 5NP Technician registry date to be able to apply for trainer status. Please check with whomever you enroll in a training with about their certification if you have a goal of being on the trainer track in under 2 years time.

The Oregon legislation on 5NP has the OMB written in as this safety keeper and registry holder. The legislation allows individuals, 18 years or older, with specific training and OMB registration to provide 5NP treatments beginning March 1, 2026. The law also directs the Oregon Medical Board to establish comprehensive rules for training qualifications and safety standards. Download the Oregon Medical Board 5NP FAQs PDF for all the details. The OMB is the organization responsible for keeping Oregonians safe when in the hands of 5NP Technicians.
