If you are looking to sign up for your own training and/or an organizational wide training, WCA has what you are looking for. Our trainings meet the Oregon Medical Board’s Rules criteria and get you ready to share your 5NP Technician skills with your community here in Oregon.
History of 5NP
This is a community lead continuity of care tool for anyone’s toolkit. Much of the training will reflect upon the Black and Brown Revolutionaries who brought forth this practice in the United States in the 1960-70s.
Material Covered
We offer the OMB required training that is comparable to POCA’s and NADA’s 30-hour trainings. Ours is offered in a hybrid format with some pre/post coursework that happens asynchronously online, thought he core of the training is the 2 day in-person workshop with lots of hands on practice.
Duration of Training
The in-person portion of the training consists of two 8 hour learning days that include lecture, group discussion and predominantly hands on practice with the needles and ears. Each training has a community clinic component where participants get real-time experience offering a supervised 5NP clinic to their community. There will be a lunch break each day, so please bring food or visit one of the local food spots.
Learning Expectations
If you sign up for the training you can expect to leave ready to be certified either by WCA, POCA, or fully guided on how to complete any missing steps. You will also leave well educated and supported in registration with the OMB. You leave the training with a kit ready to offer your own 5NP community clinics.
Financial Expectations
Trainings cost $250-450 on a sliding scale. All trainings payment cover the 30-hour hybrid didactic training with the 2-day in-person including supply kit. Please note: once you are certified you are able to and will need to register as a 5NP Technician with the Oregon Medical Board and pay the bi-annual $100 registration fee and $48 for a background check.
WCA offers trainings on a sliding scale of $250-450 to match the national average asked for a 5NP Training. You choose what you can afford within the sliding scale, no questions asked.
If the course you enroll in is full, you will automatically be notified of your spot on the waitlist for a cancellation and/or be pre-enrolled in the next available WCA 5NP Training.
Upon completion of your training, you will leave certified which then allows you to apply to register as a 5NP Technician with the OMB. Registry includes a $100 bi-annual fee (which breaks down to $50/year paid upfront) and requires a $48 background check. If anything comes up on a background check, 5NP Technician registry is still possible, it just initiates a conversation with the OMB that more often than not is easily resolved. All 5NP Technicians are required to have signed Consent Forms with all required OMB information and must retain these forms for 3 years.
If you work for an organization that could benefit from in-house trainings, we offer WCA led 5NP Trainings that we bring to you and hold on-site, or we can offer “closed” 5NP Trainings that only your org can sign up for off-site at our training space.
For current healthcare providers, though we cannot be held legally responsible as you must do your own research, we did do some of our own research for folks already holding health licenses and or certifications and have yet to find a conflicting certification or license in Oregon. Again, please check with your own Boards and employers to make sure you are truly in a good space as you and they know far more about your profession than we do.
